About
Our Research.
Our research initiative, the Barbershop Project, focuses on uncovering and addressing significant health disparities in Chicago, driven by historical segregation and systemic racism.
We partnered with 4 local barbershops to recruit 161 participants as a part of a project to uncover the relationships between neighborhood homicide rate, stress, and lung cancer.

Understanding
Health Disparities
in Chicago
We explore the stark variations in life expectancy across Chicago neighborhoods, the unequal distribution of wealth influenced by historical factors, and the impact of neighborhood violence on community health outcomes. Combined with our own project research and analysis we have highlighted the linkages between violence, stress, inequity, and health outcomes.
